In an era dominated by digital noise, the ancient art of personal storytelling remains our most powerful tool for breaking down barriers, fostering empathy, and building genuine human connection. From April 12 to 20, 2026, StartIDA MTÜ gathered 40 passionate young changemakers in the cultural heart of Estonia—Tartu—for the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange: “Stories of Connection”.
Bringing together dynamic national groups from Estonia, Türkiye (Lapis Lazuli), Romania (Asociația de Tineri din Ardeal), and Bulgaria (Turkish Culture, Art and Interaction Association), this initiative was designed to move young people from passive observation to active, empathetic authorship. By exploring personal narratives, cultural identities, and creative expression, participants aged 18–30 spent an intensive week shattering invisible walls and discovering the profound common ground that unites European youth.
The Methodology: Deepening Impact Through Non-Formal Learning
The project bypassed rigid, traditional lectures in favor of a living laboratory of experiential learning, peer education, and cognitive inclusion. Every session was crafted around non-formal education frameworks that pushed participants to step out of their comfort zones and collaborate across cultural lines.
Key pillars of the daily programme included:
- Narrative & Identity Workshops: Participants explored how personal histories form, how cultural stereotypes distort our views, and how vulnerable, honest storytelling can act as a bridge over historical or geographical divides.
- Creative Facilitation & Multimedia: Merging technical agility with creative direction, youth leaders designed and executed interactive sessions, learning to communicate complex social ideas through digital and physical mediums.
- Daily Structured Reflection: True learning happens during processing. At the end of every mobility day, youth met in facilitated reflection groups to unpack their experiences, evaluate their personal growth, and map out the key competences they developed.

Bridging Cultures: Transnational Collaboration in Practice
A core priority of the Erasmus+ programme is the promotion of equity, inclusion, and transnational partnership. “Stories of Connection” put these principles into immediate action.
By mixing accommodation, working groups, and creative tasks, participants from different socio-cultural backgrounds had to actively practice intercultural dialogue, conflict resolution, and collaborative problem-solving every single day. Whether discussing regional challenges, sharing traditional practices during intercultural evenings, or co-creating community-focused narratives, the youth proved that diversity is not a barrier to cooperation—it is its greatest asset.
Dissemination and Long-Term Sustainability: Turning Ideas into Action
The impact of “Stories of Connection” does not end with the final travel day. A key measure of the project’s success is its long-term sustainability and the commitment of our sending partners to local dissemination.
Every participating youth leader returned home equipped with a customized Youthpass certificate and a practical toolkit of non-formal education methods. Moving forward, partner organizations like Lapis Lazuli are leading localized follow-up initiatives—including digital storytelling campaigns, local workshops, and community dialogue circles—to ensure the project’s methods and values ripple out to hundreds of peers who couldn’t attend the main mobility in Estonia.
Through these concrete dissemination activities, our participants are transforming from project beneficiaries into active ambassadors for civic engagement, European solidarity, and active citizenship.
